Whatever New York

This series of photographs was taken during the summer of 2016 in New York. I wandered through the heart of this world as a passerby. Each day, as I stepped outside, surrounded by the sounds of ambulances, police cars, countless skin tones, and languages, I found myself walking the streets in a manner akin to those around me. The tangible reality of New York intertwined ambiguously with the various collected samples I had gathered from photography, film, literature, and more. As I immersed myself in the authentic moments of New York, I also discovered my own rhythm and interests. These two aspects overlapped and influenced each other, accompanied by the primal impulse and pure excitement of stepping into this new place.
Here, I encapsulated the brief yet intricate encounters I had with New York. By means of direct photography and the subsequent editing that pertains to its context, I endeavored to depict my comprehension of New York – the tumultuous fulfillment, the yearning entwined with loss, the transient existence's ephemerality, and the conflicting occupation of time. In this city, individuals pursue opportunities, brush against the severity of their dreams, yet stand by in reluctance to depart. I witnessed freedom dancing through the city, lingering on the edge of danger and power. As strangers, we are both generous and indifferent. Here, regardless of what happens, regardless of what you do, nobody cares – perhaps this marks the boundaries of freedom.
